Home Defense Wildland/Urban Interface | Off-District Team
The Prescott area is bordered by forest, heavy brush, and grassland. As the community expands, individual houses and subdivisions are built next to or in these fuels, creating areas termed "urban interface". The urban interface presents a special challenge to firefighters as any house fire could result in a wildland fire and any wildland fire could involve homes.
To confront this challenge CYFD's firefighters are trained in basic wildland firefighting methods. Additionally, many choose to receive more advanced training and participate in the off-district wildland team. This provides the opportunity to work closely with the Forest Service, assisting with suppression efforts in local forests and across the country. The experience gained can then be put to use protecting the urban interface areas in the District.
