Community Risk Management * Special Programs

The Community Risk Management Division
oversees all public education programs which include:

Fire Safety Educational Clowns
"Hot Shot" and "Bunker" are our Life and Fire Safety Clowns who educate both preschool kids and the elderly with fire safety messages. They use fun and laughter to teach important fire and injury reduction messages to the entire community.

School Fire Pals:
We also have eight "Fire Pals" (off duty firefighters) assigned to seven elementary schools in our jurisdiction. They each spend approximately 5 hours a month in the classroom teaching Urban Survival skills ranging from "Stop, Drop, and Roll" and "Dialing 911" to "Bicycle Safety" and "Gun Safety". This program starts with Kindergarten and goes through the Fifth Grade. The primary purpose of this program is to eliminate or reduce injuries before they occur.

Juvenile Fire Setter Program
The Fire Stop Program was developed and incorporated into Central Yavapai Fire District’s public education curriculum to address the problem of juveniles playing with fire and fire equipment. The program is designed to provide fire and life safety education for both the individual and the entire family. A child or adolescent may enter the program by parental request, request of the school or as a requirement of the juvenile court system. We encourage all members of the family to attend the classes as the information provided can be used for the rest of our lives.

Fire and fire safety equipment are tools that are a part of our every day activities and like all tools we must learn to respect and use these safely and properly. The Fire Stop Program shows us what fire is really like and provides information, which can be used to help protect ourselves from the dangers of fire. The program also shows the possible consequences of the misuse of fire and fire safety equipment. We use a variety of educational materials in the classroom. We also use assessment tools to assist in evaluating the need for further intervention.

Senior Fire Safety
The Senior Life and Fire Safety Program was developed using the NFPA “Remember When Fire and Fall Prevention Program for Seniors” with topics added that are appropriate for our area such as medication safety. This program is presented to the adult day care center, senior groups, such as NARFE, CASA, in-home care providers and many others. The program uses several facets including history trivia, Power Point, flashcards, and handouts to emphasize the importance of these messages. Some of the topics presented include, fall prevention, medication safety and fire safety.
